1. Make sure the clothes you buy are the right size for you. Clothing that is too small will accentuate your size and show your bumps. Choosing clothes that are too large which hang from you will make you appear bigger than you actually are.
2. Be careful with patterned clothes. Horizontal patterns make you look wider than you really are while vertical patterns or stripes have the effect of making you look taller and thereby thinner. This is simply a trick on the eye but one which you can put to good use by choosing the right plus size pattern.
3. Darker colours, especially black, have the effect of hiding the outline of your body, disguising shadows created by your bumps that would more easily show up with lighter colours. Darker coloured plus size clothes also tend to be easier on the eye and therefore your face becomes more the focus of attention.
4. Sleeveless clothing can make you look bigger especially if you have big arms, as can having a dress that is too short.
This is all about perception. You need to choose clothing that will give people the impression that you are thinner than you actually are. Many styles and designs of plus size women's clothing can help create that illusion.
