Beat the Heat in a Flattering Pair of Plus Size Shorts

If you're a full figured woman, the thought of wearing a pair of plus size shorts could seem like a very unappealing one. I know was for me! For the longest time, the only women I could think of who actually looked good wearing shorts were either athletes or skinny super models. But thankfully plus size clothing designers have become aware of the growing demand for fashionable and flattering plus size shorts and swimwear.

Unlike the days when our parents were growing up, there are now a wide range of retailers to choose from when it comes to plus size swimwear and clothing. There are even specialty stores popping up that cater specifically to plus size juniors and plus size maternity wear. Swimwear though, and related summertime fashions, seemed to be on the back burner for a long time. But with innovative retailers such as Lane Bryant, Avenue, Torrid, and traditional department stores who've added comprehensive plus size fashions to their lines, now more than ever there is a satisfyingly diverse range of options to choose from.

When it comes to plus size shorts specifically, the most important things to factor into the equation - besides the right fit - are lenth and style of the shorts. Because plus size women have fuller figures, which often means wider hips and curvier thighs, the most flattering cut is a pair of shorts that hits between the mid thigh and just at the knees. For those who are looking for even more modest options, a pair of plus sized capris or cropped pants are an excellent compromise between above the knee shorts and full length pants.

In terms of the style and design elements, the most flattering plus size shorts will have a flat front without a lot of embellishments. In particular, pleats should be avoided because these can add the illusion of extra bulk. Flat panel shorts with simple pockets, a standard number of belt loops, and clean lines will give you a flattering and stream lined look. A nice pair of shorts will match perfectly with your favorite tops, blouses and tee shirts as well. Another fun option is to go with a plus size skirts. Again, longer skirts are better suited. Choose one that falls anywhere between just above your knee to ankle length for the most flattering appearance.
